Daren Sammy Pakistan Junior League Mentor – PJL T20

Daren Julius Garvey Sammy, a cricketer from Saint Lucia who represented the West Indies internationally, was born on December 20, 1983. He has twice led his team to victory in the T20 World Cup. Sammy became the first person from the island of St. Lucia to play international cricket when he faced Bangladesh in an ODI in 2004.

Three years later, he faced England in his first Test, recording 7/66, the best bowling total for a West Indian since Alf Valentine in 1950. In October 2010, Sammy was named the captain of the West Indies. In a match against England in May 2012, he recorded his first Test century.

Darren Sammy

The only captain to have twice won the World T20 is Sammy. He led West Indies to their first major victory in eight years, an ICC World Twenty20 victory over Sri Lanka in 2012. (having won the ICC Champions trophy against England in 2004).  Sammy led West Indies to a victory over England in the 2016 ICC World Twenty20.  From 2017 until 2020, Sammy led Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League before resigning due to fitness.  He subsequently accepted a two-year deal to serve as Peshawar Zalmi’s head coach.
